Welding, related processes and technologies is a branch of science and technology that studies the patterns of formation of permanent joints of materials, metallurgical and physical processes in materials during welding, surfacing, soldering, coating, thermal cutting and other related processes, the development of highly efficient resource-saving technologies for joining materials, methods for designing strong and reliable welded structures, welding equipment, technological and robotic complexes for the production of welded products, methods for controlling the parameters of technological processes to ensure the stability of the quality and properties of welded joints.

Research areas:

- Physical and chemical processes in welding energy sources - arc, plasma, electron, light and laser beam.

- Metallurgical processes in the weld pool, crystallization of welds.

- Physical processes in materials during welding and related technologies, phase and structural transformations, the formation of compounds and the formation of their properties.

- Technological bases of welding by melting and pressure.

- Thermal processes and deformations during welding, soldering and surfacing.

- Systems of stabilization, program control and regulation of parameters of welding technology and related processes.

- Influence of design features of welded joints and welding technology on the strength, reliability and service life of welded structures.

- Equipment for welding, cutting, soldering, surfacing, coating, gluing.

The curriculum contains profile and auxiliary disciplines; preparation for examinations of the candidate's minimum in English and the history of science and technology is provided.

Profile disciplines in the curriculum:

• Theory of strength for welded structures

• Welding, related processes and technologies

• Modern methods of designing welding processes

• Theory, technology and equipment of welding with concentrated energy flows

Achievements of the institute/scientific school in this area - topics of implemented R&D projects:
